Dear AIPPI Friends,
On Thursday, April 26, 2018, I invite all of you to celebrate the World Intellectual Property Day – a day to celebrate the important global role, which IP plays in supporting creativity and technological innovation.
In 2000, WIPO member states designated April 26 as a day on which to consider how IP contributes to creativity and innovation and to promoting a better awareness and understanding of IP. April 26 was selected as World IP Day as it was the day on which the WIPO Convention (creating WIPO) took effect in 1970.
This year’s theme at WIPO is “Powering change: Women in innovation and creativity” (http://www.wipo.int/ip-outreach/en/ipday/). The 2018 World Intellectual Property Day campaign celebrates the brilliance, ingenuity, curiosity and courage of the women who are driving change in our world and shaping our common future. It also is an opportunity to highlight how the IP system can support innovative and creative women (and indeed everyone) in their quest to bring their amazing ideas to market.
Do you know an inspiring female inventor or creator near you whose “can do” attitude is an inspiration to us all? Do you have an idea how to ensure that increasing numbers of women and girls across the globe engage in innovation and creativity? Tell us about your activities on World IP Day at members@aippi.org!
I wish all of you a happy World IP Day.
Best regards,
